What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are one of the most popular aesthetic treatments for women and men in the UK and worldwide.

They are a minimally invasive treatment that provide a great alternative to surgery for anyone looking for facial rejuvenation.

Dermal fillers are an injectable treatment that provide structural support and volume to the skin. They contain hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps to hydrate and improve skin elasticity.

We use dermal filler injections to:

  •       Restore lost volume as a result of the natural ageing process
  •       Add volume to thin or hollow areas of face
  •       Enhance facial contours and add structure
  •       Reduce fine lines and deep wrinkles
  •       Improve hydration and skin texture

Because hyaluronic acid is a natural substance, it allows the dermal fillers to blend naturally with your existing skin tissue.

The result – lifted, sculpted and smooth skin, giving you a more youthful appearance.

What are the benefits of dermal fillers?

Injectable dermal fillers are one of the most versatile skin treatments. Their benefits include:

  • Immediate, visible results – which continues to improve over the following weeks
  • Minimal downtime – you can go back to normal activities straight away
  • Customised treatment – tailored to your facial anatomy, skin condition and aesthetic goals
  • Long-lasting results – anywhere from 6-18 months depending on the treatment area
  • Natural-looking results – that do not change the way you look, only enhance your natural beauty
  • Fully reversible – unlike surgery, hyaluronic acid fillers are biodegradable which allows the body to break them down over time. We can also reverse the treatment for your peace of mind.

Dermal fillers provide great results for first-time patients and those who want regular maintenance treatments to keep that youthful glow.

Treatment areas for dermal fillers

At Time Clinic in London, our medical doctors and practitioners use dermal filler injections to treat different skin concerns on the following areas of the face:

Cheek filler

Cheek filler treatment can help restore volume and add definition to the cheekbone area. They can also create a subtle lifting effect to firm sagging skin and improve facial contours.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty

Nose fillers or liquid rhinoplasty can help to reshape the nose including smoothing bumps on the nasal bridge. Dermal fillers for the nose can also correct asymmetry and refine the nasal tip.

Lip fillers

Lip filler treatment or lip enhancement uses dermal filler to add volume and create fuller lips. They also help to add definition to the lip border and improve hydration in the lips.

Tear Trough filler (under eyes)

Tear trough fillers are designed to enhance the under eye area to reduce the appearance of dark circles for a more rested look. They also add volume to sunken tear troughs, while also improving skin texture.

Chin and jawline fillers

Chin filler and jawline filler offer a great way to sculpt and define the lower face. They help to add volume, smooth lines, and create a more contoured look. We use them to improve a weak chin, reduce a double chin, and tackle sagging jowls.

Nasolabial folds and marionette lines

Dermal filler treatment can soften deep lines and wrinkles from your nose to the mouth area, and from the bottom of your lips to the chin area.

Our experienced medical practitioners will tailor your dermal fillers treatment to complement your facial features and structure, so that your results look natural and suit your look.

Before and after dermal filler results

At Time Clinic, our experienced medical practitioners will tailor your dermal fillers treatment to complement your facial features and structure.

Our aim is to help you see subtle and natural-looking results that provide you with a refreshed and more youthful appearance.

Dermal filler treatment process

Your dermal filler treatment will begin with an initial consultation at one of our East London skin clinics.

During this appointment, one of our aesthetic doctors or trained practitioners will assess your facial anatomy, discuss your skin concerns, and look at your medical history. We will also answer any questions you might have about dermal fillers.

From this, we will build a personalised treatment plan that will match your skin needs and ensure you see optimal results.

Your dermal filler procedure:

  1. We will cleanse the skin and apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area for your comfort
  2. Using a very fine needle, we will inject small amounts of filler into different points of the face and into the dermis or subdermal layer of skin. This will depend on which areas you are having dermal filler injections in.
  3. We will massage the treatment area to ensure all filler is evenly distributed and add more, if necessary.
  4. Your dermal fillers treatment should take 30-60 minutes to complete (depending on the area).

Your safety and wellbeing is our top priority. Our team of medical experts use the most advanced techniques to ensure the filler is injected at the right points and depths to minimise any swelling and bruising.

What to expect after dermal fillers – recovery and side effects

With dermal filler treatment there is minimal downtime. Most patients only experience some slight swelling, bruising and redness around the injection sites. This is normal and will go down within 24-48 hours.

You will see some immediate results from your facial fillers treatment, including plumper skin. reduced wrinkles and more structure to the face.

It can take up to two weeks for the fillers to fully settle and your final results to show.

Dermal fillers aftercare

To ensure you get the most out of our dermal filler treatment, you should:

  •       Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol consumption and excessive heat (including showers and saunas) for at least 24 hours.
  •       Do not rub or massage the treatment area to prevent the filler from moving
  •       Do not apply any make-up for 24 hours to avoid any infection to the injection sites
  •       You can use a cold compress or icepack to reduce any swelling
  •       Use an extra pillow when you sleep to keep your head elevated.

At the end of your dermal fillers treatment, we will provide you with full aftercare instructions to help your skin heal, to prevent any infection, and to help you see amazing results.

Frequently asked questions

The results of dermal filler treatment can last between 6-18 months. This will depend on what areas you are having treatment in and how quickly your metabolism breaks down the fillers.

Most patients come back into the clinic for a maintenance treatment at around the 12-month mark.

The price of dermal fillers varies from patient to patient. We will build a bespoke treatment package tailored to your needs during your consultation, which will include how much your treatment will cost.

Price ranges tend to be between £300 and £480 for individual treatment.

Most people will be suitable for dermal filler treatment. However, if you are pregnant, breast-feeding or receiving IVF treatment you should not undergo this procedure.

Dermal fillers are one of the most safe treatments to achieve facial rejuvenation results without surgery.

It is important that you have dermal fillers treatment with a trained professional who understands how to inject fillers safely and at the right points. At Time clinic, you will be in the hands of Dr Bawa and our qualified practitioners.

Most patients find dermal fillers to be a tolerable treatment.

You will feel a sharp scratch and a bit of pressure from the fine needle we use to inject your dermal fillers. However, to ensure you feel minimum discomfort, we apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area first.

It is normal for patients to experience some mild redness, swelling and bruising for the first 24-48 hours after their treatment. This will go down if you follow our aftercare advice and guidance.

There is little to no downtime with dermal fillers. However, your skin may feel tender for the first 24 hours post-treatment.

At Time Clinic, we are confident that you will like the results of your dermal fillers treatment.

However, if for any reason, you are not completely satisfied, we can safely dissolve hyaluronic acid fillers, offering you extra peace of mind.

Yes, you can combine dermal fillers with other skin treatments as part of an anti-ageing skin treatment plan.

The most common combinations include:

  •       Anti-wrinkle treatment and dermal fillers – to relax fine lines and add volume and definition to the face.
  •       Polynucleotides and fillers – to help hydrate and improve skin texture, while fillers create more contour and definition.
  •       Microneedling – to improve skin texture and increase collagen production. This treatment helps to improve the health of your skin to create a better canvas for dermal fillers.
  •  Chemical peels – a course of chemical peels can improve skin tone, texture and brightness, while fillers restore volume and smooth out deep lines.

You should avoid taking any blood thinning medications such as aspirin and ibuprofen for at least a week before your treatment.

You should also stop using acid-based skincare products and retinol at least 3 days before.

Finally, stay hydrated and do not drink alcohol or caffeine in the 24-48 hours leading up to your appointment.
