Polynucleotide Treatment

Polynucleotide treatment is an advanced skin treatment that repairs, hydrates, and rejuvenates the skin from within.

Because they work on a cellular level, polynucleotides strengthen and improve your skin health and function over time.

This innovative non-surgical treatment can reduce fine lines and wrinkles, boost skin elasticity, smooth uneven skin texture, and enhance your overall skin quality.

At Time Clinic in East London, we use polynucleotides to help you achieve long-term skin rejuvenation, so you see skin that looks firm, radiant and more youthful.

What are polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides are quickly becoming one of the most popular skin rejuvenation treatments, and  for good reason.

This non-surgical treatment uses purified DNA fragments, most commonly from salmon DNA, because of its incredible biocompatibility with human skin.

Unlike other injectable treatments, such as dermal fillers, which focus on the skin’s surface, polynucleotides work on a much deeper level to create healthier-looking skin.

Polynucleotide treatment helps to wake up dormant fibroblasts (cells that contribute to building connective tissue) to stimulate elastin and collagen production. This leads to improved elasticity, skin firmness, and hydration.

We also use polynucleotides to repair damaged skin cells, including UV damage, and calm inflammation to protect the healthy new skin cells.

Because polynucleotide injections focus on skin regeneration rather than just adding volume or plumpness to the skin’s surface, they are suitable for all ages and skin types.

We recommend polynucleotides for anyone looking to achieve a long-term improvement in their skin texture, skin health and overall quality of their skin.

Benefits of polynucleotide treatments

Polynucleotides treatments are popular because they provide a versatile solution to many different skin concerns, including:

  •       Provides deep hydration for dry skin
  •       Creates firmer, smoother and more radiant skin
  •       Improved skin texture and skin tone
  •       Boost skin elasticity and flexibility (skin bounces back)
  •       Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
  •       Boost collagen and elastin production for anti-ageing and scar reduction
  •       Has anti-inflammatory properties to calm skin irritation
  •       Restore and strengthen the skin barrier, improving skin health over time

Polynucleotides are an excellent choice for sensitive areas on the face that are prone to skin thinning and volume loss, including the under eyes, neck and décolletage.

How does polynucleotide treatment work?

Your polynucleotide treatment will be performed by one of our qualified doctors or medical practitioners.

We use a very fine needle to inject small amounts of the polynucleotides into the skin to deliver the solution to the dermal layers of the skin. This is the area of skin where fibroblasts and connective tissue form.

When injected, the polynucleotides begin to work on a cellular level to stimulate fibroblasts by sending DNA fragments that act as biological signals.

As a result, your skin starts to trigger its natural repair processes, which includes the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. This leads to firmer, smoother and more youthful skin over the next few months.

They also bind water molecules to give your skin an instant boost of hydration. Not only does this give you that dewy glow, but it also results in plumper and healthier skin.

Common treatment areas for polynucleotides

Polynucleotide treatment is ideal for treating multiple areas of the face and body, including:

  •       Under eye area (tear trough) – to reduce dark circles, puffiness, and hollow under eyes
  •       Cheeks and jawline – to improve skin quality and skin firmness
  •       Neck and décolletage – smooth skin texture (crepey skin) and tighten the skin to reduce horizontal neck lines
  •       Hands and arms – for reducing sun damage, improving elasticity and hydration
  •       Scalp – to support scalp health and target hair loss

At your initial consultation, we will assess your skin condition, skin concerns, and look at your medical history.

Our doctors will create a tailored treatment plan that will ensure you see optimal results and a more youthful appearance.

Polynucleotides: before and after results

Most patients typically see visible improvement in their skin hydration, skin texture, and skin tone in the first few weeks.

Over the next few months, new collagen and elastin will form in the skin to help it look more firm and plump.

At Time Clinic, we focus on providing natural-looking results that enhance your natural beauty. Every treatment is tailored to your individual needs and skin goals.

The polynucleotide treatment process

The first step on your polynucleotide treatment is a detailed consultation at one of our east London skin clinics.

During this appointment, your doctor or practitioner will do a personalised assessment of your skin condition and skin issues. They will also talk you through the treatment process and answer any questions you might have.

We will develop a bespoke treatment plan that will give you great results.

Your polynucleotide treatment session:

  1. We will cleanse the skin to prepare it for the injections
  2. We apply a numbing cream to the treatment area to minimise any discomfort
  3. Using a very fine needle, we will inject small amount of the solution into precise targeted areas of the skin
  4. Your treatment session should only take 30-60 minutes, depending on how many areas you are having treatment on

Throughout your treatment journey, you will be in the hands of experienced medical professionals who will follow the highest standards of patient safety and care.

They understand how to inject polynucleotides at the right points and depths in the skin to ensure you see amazing results and to reduce any side effects.

What to expect after polynucleotide treatment

Polynucleotides are a safe non-surgical treatment that require minimal downtime. Most patients go back to work straight away, which makes this treatment easy to fit into a busy schedule.

You may experience some mild redness, bruising, and swelling around the injection sites. This is normal and will settle down within 24-48 hours.

Aftercare advice

  •       Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol and excessive heat (saunas and showers) for 24-48 hours
  •       Do not apply pressure or massage the treatment area for 48 hours
  •       Avoid wearing makeup for the first 24 hours.
  •       Try to minimise sun exposure and always wear sun protection (factor 30 or 50)
  •       Do not use any harsh skin actives such as acid or retinol for 1-2 weeks

For optimal results, you will need a course of treatments.

We may also recommend a regular maintenance treatment every 9-12 months to support long-term skin health.

Frequently asked questions

Polynucleotide injections will be administered by one of the medical experts at Time Clinic London.

During the treatment, we inject the polynucleotide solution into the targeted treatment area using very fine needles. The depth and pattern of the injections can vary based on the specific treatment goals.

You can expect smoother, firmer, brighter-looking skin that’s more even in tone and texture.

For the best results, we always recommend a course of three to four treatments spaced a few weeks apart.

The results of your polynucleotides treatment can last for 6-12 months. This will depend on factors such as your age, current skin health, and lifestyle.

Maintenance treatments will help to support long-term skin health and repair, keeping your skin looking more youthful longer.

Most people and skin types are suitable for polynucleotides treatment.

However, if you are pregnant, breast-feeding or receiving IVF treatment, it may not be advisable to undergo this procedure. This will be determined at your consultation.

Polynucleotides treatments are generally considered safe when administered by trained professionals.

As with any treatment, there are potential side effects, which might include pain at the injection site, bruising, swelling, and allergic reactions.

It’s always essential to consult with a qualified healthcare provider before considering any injectable treatments.

After the treatment, you might experience some redness, swelling, or bruising, which usually settles within a week.

Your doctor or practitioner will assess your skin, discuss your goals, and look at your medical history.

They will also talk you through how the treatment works, what you can expect, and show you the results other patients have achieved.

We will also provide you with a tailored treatment plan that will include how many sessions you will need and the cost of your treatment.

Most patients find polynucleotide treatment to be fairly comfortable. However, we understand that discomfort will vary from person to person.

You may feel a small pinch or scratch from the fine needle when it enters the skin. You may also feel a slight pressure from the needle. This only lasts a few seconds.

We can apply a numbing cream to the treatment area first to help minimise any discomfort. We will discuss this with you at your consultation.

Traditional skin boosters that use hyaluronic acid tend to focus on hydrating the skin’s surface and plumping the skin. They do offer faster results, but they are also short-lived.

Polynucleotides work to actively repair and regenerate the skin from within. They can target skin concerns such as ageing, scarring and pigmentation issues, while also providing long-term benefits to your skin quality and skin health.

Yes, you can combine polynucleotides with other skin treatments.

Depending on what skin issues you are looking to treat, we may recommend one or more of the following treatments to help enhance your results:

Microneedling – to create micro-channels that can make the absorption of polynucleotides better and lead to more collagen and elastin production.

Dermal fillers – that will add volume and instant plumpness, while polynucleotides focus on improving your overall skin quality.

Skin boosters – such as Profhilo to further hydrate and plump the skin

Laser treatment – to increase hydration and firmness in the deeper layers of the skinHydraFacial – a HydraFacial treatment can help cleanse, exfoliate and clear the skin. It can help prep the skin for polynucleotides.
