What is a skin peel?
A skin peel, also known as a chemical peel, is an exfoliating treatment that helps to remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin.
Skin peels work by applying a chemical solution to the skin to remove or peel away the top layers of your skin. Each treatment takes around 30 – 60 minutes to complete depending on your skin condition and the level of skin peel you have.
After just one chemical skin peel treatment, you will start to see skin that looks smoother, clearer and more radiant looking.
What are the benefits of chemical peels?
Chemical skin peels can help treat a number of skin concerns or skin conditions, which include:
- Targeting the early signs of ageing including fine lines and wrinkles
- Reducing acne scars
- Improving skin tone and texture
- Helping to treat breakouts and congested skin
- Addressing hyperpigmentation, age spots and dark spots
- Reducing discolouration from sun damage
- Promoting brighter and healthier-looking skin
Are skin peels suitable for all skin types?
At Time clinic in Essex, we offer a number of skin peels that can help treat most skin types. Your care and wellbeing are our priority, so we will do a full assessment of your skin during your consultation. This will include a patch test (especially for those with darker skin tones) to see whether you are suitable for treatment.
Types of chemical peel
We only use professional grade chemical peels from iS Clinical and Obagi. This helps to properly exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells. They include ingredients such as salicylic acid, glycolic acid and lactic acid, which stimulate the production of new skin cells and help brighten and smooth your skin.
The three main types of skin peel are:
Light or superficial skin peels – gives you a light refresh and helps to treat acne, uneven skin tones, and lines and wrinkles.
Medium skin peels – penetrate to deeper parts of your skin to remove skin cells. They are often used for treating acne scars, fine lines and uneven skin tones.
Deep skin peels – goes even deeper to remove skin cells. They help to treat deeper wrinkles, sun damage and deep acne scars. The recovery time for deeper peels is longer than light or medium skin peels.

How many skin peels will I need?
The great part of skin peels as a treatment is that we can tailor them to address your skin concern. We will work with you during your consultation to develop a treatment package that will deliver your desired outcome.
In as little as one treatment you can start to see results. Most of our patients have a course of three skin peel treatments to achieve brighter and clearer skin.
We also recommend that you have a top-up session every few months to maintain your results and keep your skin looking the best it can be.
